I'm listening to former Cincinnati City Councilman Christopher Smitherman on WDBZ doing all this complaining about the decision to acquit Howard Beatty of Aggravated Murder charges in the Kabaka Oba case. What I don't hear this hypocrite addressing is why he didn't show up for the trial even though he was issued a subpoena? What a coward! He issues a press release after the verdict is issued.
I hear some people say Howard shot Kabaka because he didn't like the things Kabaka said, not because Kabaka was terrorizing him, his family, and his co-workers and went too far when, after waving a gun at Howard and others in the past, threatened Howard's niece. Well, if this is true, why didn't Howard kill Joy Rolland, Yvonne Collins, or Dwight Patton?

What makes Jim Tarbell a racist? I used to be a neighbor of his and have worked with his wife and step son on several different community projects and would be far put off to call him anything near a racist.
I agree with you Nate. I heard that show and quite frankly Smiterman is a hypocrite, a phony and a political crybaby loser!
The main point people must understand is Smitherman not only had a subpoena, the coward had a subpoena FOR THE DEFENSE! He was to tesify FOR Howard Beatty! Now how the hell does that work Smitherman, Mr. call Judge Nadel and cry like a bitch? So while he's casting stones at what did or what did not happen in the courtroom, by the way if Kabaka was such a "good committed friend" of yours Smitherman why the hell didn't you bother to show up to support his family and show the world a.k.a. white people you supported him out front and in the open?
Back to the point -- Yes folks THE DEFENSE SUBPOENAED Crybaby Christopher Smitherman and the cowardly ex-councilman didn't even show up.
Now why would Kenneth Lawson subpoena Christopher Smitherman to testify on BEHALF of Howard Beatty if Smitherman didn't know more about Kabaka threatening Howard than he cares to let on the public a.k.a. black community know about it?
Smitherman's hands are NOT clean by any means. He knew Kabaka was terrorizing Howard, he knew Joy Rolland instigated it all and kept it going and he knew Kabaka was loooong out of control and he knows Kabaka getting shot had NOTHING to do with activist! And don't play dumb about the gun Smitherman you knew about that too!
Christopher Smitherman's behind-the-scene role in this Kabaka/Howard case will all come to light sooner than Smitherman would like and there ain't a damn thing he can do about it! Christopher Smitherman will be exposed for the hypocritical cowardly underhanded fake one-term politican he really is and when he is exposed-- sorry Chrissy you won't have Kabaka to jump in there to pump you up and speak your name from on high.

Smitherman's claim that "if this were a white man 'getting away'[his perception] with killing another white man, they'd be taking it to the streets." Huh? I'd like for him to cite one incident where white people have rioted over their disagreement with a legal decision. That's crazy talk. What the hell's he up to? We have a court system. This case was taken through the courts. Some agree with the decision--some don't. That's the name of the game. He seems to be purposely ignoring the problem between Kabaka and virtually everybody else with the exception of about a half dozen people. He showed up at every event calling people coons. There were always arguments, near fights. He was abusive and threatening.. He went on TV threatening people and published those same threats on web sites. All of a sudden Smitherman and those on his bandwagon now paint Kabaka as the next Mahatma Ghandi. That said, of course, even that behavior wasn't justification for killing him and the killer should have and was prosecuted. It seems that now, Smitherman wants to stoke the flames and incite some kind of perceived justice outside of the courts. A vendetta. Isn't that what this is all about? Look. Some win. Some lose. You can't on one hand blast the courts for overprosecution of black men, and then on the other hand blast the courts for the underprosecution of a black man, just because it is a case that gets your face and voice back in the public realm. This is Smitherman's run up to the 2007 elections. He's going to pull at whatever straws he can get. The dumb jackass forgets the whites abandoned him day one at City Hall after he made the comment, "I am the Police Chief's boss." Then election day rolled around & the black vote decided to go elsewhere.
Smitherman somehow forgets that he aided & abetted Kabaka to show up at Committee meetings & City Council to spread the racial hatred message. This is widely known throughout this city.
I'm hoping that one day someone files a public records request to obtain his phone records while he was sitting on City Council to ascertain how many "Financial Manager" deals & discussions he made on the City taxpayers' dime.
Smitherman needs to shut up. He copped out on a subpoena for the defense (why didn't Lawson compel the Judge for an arrest order on that????) & now he's yelling that he's upset with the verdict.
Further, he's blaming the entire white community for the outcome. Clearly, he wasn't in the courtroom when Judge Nadel gave the legal reason for his verdict. Furthermore, the stupid shit didn't read the papers because Nadel's explanation within the framework of the law was published.
I've noticed he's deadly silent on the murder of Phil Bates over the weekend. So silent, it's deafening. This is the only time I've heard Smitherman quiet.
Smitherman is a portrait of racial hatred & divide in this city, not Jim Tarbell. In community service, Smitherman couldn't patch Tarbell's shoes. You'd never, ever find Smitherman in a racially mixed neighborhood picking up trash or doing painting on an old woman's house. Absolutely not.
Where did this loudmouth jackass get his analogy "if a white man killed another white man, they'd be taking it to the streets"? Huh? Gosh, that shows just how out of touch he is with non-black residents in this city. Waaayyy out of touch. The white folks get home before dark, lock their doors & watch breaking news for the story. They don't go out in the streets. Then they let the Court system do their thing. If the white dude gets life, that's fine. If the white dude gets tazed, that's OK too. If the white dude gets life in prison, that works. Just so long as they're off the streets.
Is this a person we want back on City Council to "serve" us? Given his track record, the only person he served was himself.
After the November election, you'll hear this loud mouthed negro's mouth plenty. Spewing racial hatred, racial bias, criticizing the Courts, the Police, everything that's wrong with this City. Does he have a plan to fix any of this? Answer: He didn't have a plan the first time around.
Not only is Smitherman a hypocrite, a phony & a political crybaby loser, he's an empty-headed loudmouth who desperately needs some sort of treatment & counseling. The boy is a loose cannon, not a political candidate in any form. One scary son of a bitch. Never did like him. Wouldn't turn my back on him for a second.
Just remember this incident, too, when he gets going on that Campaign 2007 wagon. Vote NO on Smitherman. Let him get a job washing cars or stacking dishes.

You are a friend and I respect you, but in all fairness, Smitherman was not the only one who was issued a subpoea who did not come to court...and that is all I will say on that.

Which others didn't show up and are they on the radio and writing articles on blogs trying to promote their own agenda regarding this case? For someone that hid from the subpoena he sure is active and visible and outraged now. He had an opportunity to express that in court didn't he? To be fair, ask him to address that.

BTW: Old man Glen-O got a subpoena to testify for the DEFENSE/Howard Beatty and he too is on every freakin'talk show on the Buzz crying the Kabaka blues. So while Smitherman sits somewhere making up his lie as to why he didn't show up to court maybe Glen O can think up his.
Mr. Lawson should've issued an arrest warrant for Smitherman's ass then he'd really have something to talk about-would'nt he?
Glen O's in the Cincinnati Herald talking that outrage shit and saying, "He was outspoken but he was not a black militant."
Now how many times has Kabaka himself stated he IS a black militant?!?
This is a perfect example of people in the aftermath who knew Kabaka's ass was out of control now trying to REINVENT him into some kinda Martin Luther King Jr. when in fact he was nothing other than a poor imitation of a watered-down Malcolm X.
